There were many performances to be proud of this past week end at the Jr. Olympic qualifiers and the MAWA district qualifier. We had 4 individual J.O. area champions, in area IV Alec Hutchin took the gold in the 90lb division w/ an impressive win in the finals Josh Kuslock 65lbs and Jake Martin 95lbs brought home the bronze in are IV. In area VII Nino Barnoccorsi won the 65lb title w/ an extremely exciting last second victory. Jake Wentzel also showed how big his heart and determination is by coming from behind to win the championship match as well. JJ Walker rounded out the gold medals in area VII w/ a win in the 95lbs division.

We also had three boys surprise the field by placing 2nd in Marco Marinelli 85lbs, Jake Stewart 95lbs and Danny Palm 110lbs. Marco was able to knock off a #1 seed in the process. Sean Perri 70lbs, Brookes Wilding 85lbs and Ron Warren 95lbs all wrestled terrific in deep divisions and brought home bronze.

We should also make a very impressive side note for the South Hills in the J.O.
tournament. Out of six wrestlers entered into the tournament South Park brought all six through to the finals and consolation finals. No boy took less then 4th place! I believe that is a sign of things to come from many in our area.

At the MAWA's we had Mason Shafer 60lbs and Tyler Heasley 98lbs take 1st place.
Kellan Stout 91lbs and Connor Whealan 91lb and Nate Hall 75lbs all placed 2nd.
Paul Dunn 91lbs and Turner Gray 66lbs battled back for very respectable 3rd place finishes. All of the boys qualified for the next round of competition in Shippensburg.

Congratulations to all.

We look forward to seeing HUGE things from him in the future. Both boys worked extremely hard last Spring and Summer and the results speak for themselves.

The Few... The Proud... Adopt a Marine!
Iron Horse and the Mt. Lebanon rec. participated in a program called "Adopt a Marine." We were given a helicopter crew stationed somewhere in the Middle East. The crew asked mostly for some clothes.

"I received your package and handed the items out to many of my Marines. It is extraordinary to see that
people care about us this much. The items that were
sent will keep us warm throughout the winter months,
and also keep us cool. We all want to thankyou for your support. Attached are pictures of us wearing the t-shirts and sweatshirts. Again, thank you, and go team go!"

The Tie-in Between the Two Sports
I know many of you are multi-sport athletes, so here are some articles that specifically discuss some benefits for football player who wrestled. In the one presentation, there are also some comments by football coaches and how highly they think of wrestlers. I think you may be surprised by how many stand out players in the NFL have been successful wrestlers.
